Benefits
Natural
Chamomile is a gentle antiseptic, an anti-inflammatory and a sedative. As well as soothing skin, it calms both body and mind — and can help to bring the emotions back into balance.
The sweetly-scented, daisy-like flowers of the chamomile plant appear from early summer all the way through to autumn. The golden blossoms are collected as soon as they open and are then dried, and sometimes crushed, before being used to fill tea bags.
Along with Roman chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), German chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) is commonly used to fill tea bags, in order to make the delicate infusion known as ‘chamomile tea’.
Chamomile was highly prized for its medicinal qualities in Ancient Egypt. Its soothing properties mean that as well as calming sensitive or inflamed skin, it can relax tense muscles, ease anxiety and aid restful sleep.
