Sweet-smelling vanilla pods are soaked in humectant propylene glycol, creating a soothing and conditioning extract for the skin.

Why vanilla pods?

Natural vanilla smells amazing! It’s sweet, comforting and reassuring, and while that could be the only reason we love adding it to our products, its great benefits for the skin are far from insignificant. Vanilla is soothing and makes the skin feel comfortable, it is antibacterial and humectant and contains antioxidants that bring radiance.

At Lush UK manufacturing sites, we purchase high-quality vanilla pods from the Ndali farm in Uganda. This curing facility, where vanilla beans go through a 3 to 6-month-long maturing process, purchases green beans from a cooperative union that enables Ugandan farmers to maintain fair prices throughout the market's fluctuations.

With seven manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.

Why propylene glycol?

Propylene glycol is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from its surroundings and delivers it to your skin and hair. Definitely an ally for supple and soft skin! We like to mix it with other ingredients like vanilla beans as it will carry their scent and properties well while keeping bacteria growth to a minimum.

Most propylene glycol is derived from petrochemicals, but at LUSH, we purchase a plant-based version.
