Irish Moss Gel

Ingredient

Irish Moss Gel

Chondrus crispus

Benefits

Natural

Sourced from the west coast of Ireland, dried Irish moss is boiled in water to make a cleansing and soothing gel. Rich in antifungal sulphur, the seaweed is said to help with acne and dandruff.

Despite its mossy common name, Chondrus crispus is a bushy, red seaweed found on the Atlantic coast of Europe.

If you’ve ever taken a trip to the seaside, you can just imagine slimy sea-vegetation brushing bathers' ankles, prompting a shriek of surprise. Even more surprising (or not, if you’re a seaweed pro) is the fact that most seaweed, including Irish moss, is actually very beneficial for the skin and hair. Its super-soothing mucilage (the plant's gel) is antifungal and nourishing, and can be extracted to produce carrageenan, a popular thickener that enhances hydration.
