Benefits

Synthetic

Getting the most out of cucumbers by mixing them with propylene glycol, a syrupy liquid with humectant properties.

Where do we get this?

Lush purchases propylene glycol from a Belgian company that prides itself on creating biodegradable chemicals from natural oils. Their business strategy includes protecting natural resources and biodiversity, the welfare of their employees and inclusivity.

When it comes to cucumbers, these can come from various places. Within Lush UK, nearly all of our fresh fruit and vegetables are purchased from the same specialist distributor, whom we’ve been working with since 2005. Depending on the time of year, they source products from different countries to try and have availability all year round. They work hard to supply as many organic products as possible and provide the highest quality available the rest of the time.

With seven manufacturing sites across the globe, this information may vary depending on where your Lush products were made.

What are the benefits of cucumber extract?

Cucumbers contain 90% of cooling and hydrating water, but they’re also a good source of vitamin C, B, and silica, especially in their green outer layer. These nutrients are recommended for the skin as they’re thought to help retain moisture, smooth lines and improve elasticity. The fresh sensation that the vegetable leaves on the skin is also believed to have depuffing properties.

To create this extract, cucumbers are blended with propylene glycol, a great carrier that, among other benefits, helps different ingredients mix better and reach the skin. Read more about propylene glycol’s role in our formula here.
